MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, will host the 6th Session of the International Dates Council. The meeting aims to discuss several topics related to the development of the palm and date sector and the enhancement of international cooperation in this field.

The meeting, featuring the participation of several member states, will involve discussions on a range of organisational and technical topics. It will review the Council's annual report, highlight key achievements from the past period, and cover plans, programmes, and initiatives designed to support and develop the palm and date sector at both regional and international levels.

Furthermore, the Council will address topics concerning the strengthening of cooperation among member states, alongside the exchange of expertise, knowledge, studies, research, technologies, and promising practices across production, quality, processing, marketing, and international trade. These efforts aim to boost the competitiveness of date products and enhance their presence in global markets.

The meeting will also highlight the Council's vital role in providing data and indicators on production, trade, and markets. It will support member states in developing joint projects and building partnerships with the private sector, universities, research centres, and relevant institutions, in addition to building national capacities and sharing expertise in innovation, sustainability, and value chains.

Additionally, the session will review state memberships and the opportunities they offer to enhance member states' participation in shaping trends, strategies, and initiatives for the future of the palm and date sector. It will also focus on fostering cooperation in standards, quality, food safety and international market access. — ONA
